The 500-year flood zone gives you a 6% chance of being flooded. The 100-year flood zone gives you a 26% chance of being flooded. The 50-year flood zone gives you a 45% chance of being flooded. The 25-year flood zone gives you a 71% chance of being flooded. If we use those same statistics, over the course of a 30-year mortgage, this is the flood risk you could be exposed to… FEMA frequently reports these other floodplain frequencies in the Flood Insurance Study (FIS), which is a report that accompanies the maps, but they aren’t on the maps because it’s too much information to clearly draw on the map. You could be in the 50-year floodplain, or the 25-year floodplain, or the 10-year floodplain as you move closer to the flooding source. The closer you get to the flooding source, the more the ‘years’ go down. river, stream, pond, etc.) you have more risk. We recommend you get a flood insurance policy to cover you and your family. So, even if you are outside of the 100-year flood zone, you are likely close to the 100-year flood zone, and therefore you are carrying almost the same risk but the insurance cost is very low. It’s a bare minimum standard and it doesn’t mean you won’t flood. Being in or out of the 100-year flood zone is just the requirement for mandatory flood insurance purchase. A 1% annual risk of being flooded was the line FEMA drew. If you are close to the 100-year flood, your risk may not have been significantly reduced.Ī line had to be drawn somewhere to make the FEMA flood maps. So we are really all in a flood zone of some sort and it's just a matter of which one. With enough rain, anything will flood, and we still can’t predict the weather very well. But maybe you are now in the 0.99% annual chance flood zone or the 0.75% annual chance flood zone. the 1% flood) that you are safe from flooding. You might look at a FEMA flood map and think that because you are on the outside of the 100-year flood zone line (e.g. You could roll snake eyes twice in a row or never see it in 100 rolls. You could see many "100-year" floods in the same town in the same year because it's just a statistical average based on past precipitation records and we never know what mother nature will do. And that's a pretty reasonable thing to say when we use the "100-year-flood" term all the time rather than putting the meaning behind it. People say all the time that their property hasn't flooded in 100 years so there's no way it's in a 100-year flood zone. Try saying "zero point two percent annual chance flood zone" two dozen times a day and you can see why we use the short version. Since 1% is also "1 out of 100", the term "100-year flood" was adopted because that's easier to talk about than rattling off a bunch of statistics.įEMA sometimes shows a 500-year flood on their maps and that is technically the 0.2% annual chance flood. It means there is a 1% chance you will see a flood like the one on the FEMA flood map each and every year. But it doesn't mean what you might think. I use the term “100-year flood zone daily for elevation certificates, LOMA’s, and explaining flood maps. 4/10/2024 0 Comments Club keno numbersFor example, it is not uncommon to see casinos paying $500 or even $1,000 for a “catch” of 0 out of 20 on a 20 spot ticket with a $5.00 wager. Typically, the more numbers a player chooses and the more numbers hit, the greater the payout, although some paytables pay for hitting a lesser number of spots. Keno payouts are based on how many numbers the player chooses and how many of those numbers are "hit", multiplied by the proportion of the player's original wager to the "base rate" of the paytable. There were also other, earlier games called Keno, but these were played in the same way as the game now known as " Bingo", not the modern game of Keno (for example, see an example from 1866 in Houston, Texas ). Eventually, Chinese immigrants introduced keno to the West when they sailed across the Pacific Ocean to work on construction of the First transcontinental railroad in the 19th century, where the name was Westernized into boc hop bu and puck-apu. The Chinese played the game using sheets printed with Chinese characters, often the first 80 characters of the Thousand Character Classic, from which the winning characters were selected. According to some, results of keno games in great cities were sent to outlying villages and hamlets by carrier pigeons, resulting in its Chinese name 白鸽票 báigē piào, with the literal reading "white dove tickets" in Mandarin, but in Southern varieties of Chinese spoken in Guangdong simply meaning "pigeon tickets", and pronounced baak 6-gaap 3-piu 3 in Cantonese (on which the Western spelling 'pak-ah-pu' / ' pakapoo' was based). The word "keno" has French or Latin roots (Fr. By way of comparison, the typical house edge for non-slot casino games is under 5%. There are a wide variety of keno paytables depending on the casino, usually with a larger " house edge" than other games, ranging from less than 4 percent to over 35 percent in online play, and 20-40% in in-person casinos. The player is paid based on how many numbers were chosen (either player selection, or the terminal picking the numbers), the number of matches out of those chosen, and the wager. After all players make their wagers, 20 numbers (some variants draw fewer numbers) are drawn at random, either with a ball machine similar to ones used for lotteries and bingo, or with a random number generator.Įach casino sets its own series of payouts, called "paytables". Players wager by choosing numbers ranging from 1 through (usually) 80. Keno / k iː n oʊ/ is a lottery-like gambling game often played at modern casinos, and also offered as a game in some lotteries. The outline can also be customised in the same way (colour, opacity, thickness) as the crosshairs themselves. OutlineĪdding an outline to your crosshairs pronounces them further. Boldening it will certainly help keep it more visible, but you run the risk of obscuring the environment if you make it too thick. Like with length, changing the thickness can help with the reticule’s prominence. Conversely, if you’re finding the cross dominating too much of your screen, shrinking the arm length can help. Lengthįor those struggling to keep track of where the crosshair is on screen, you can lengthen the vertical and horizontal arms of the cross. If you have opted for a vivid colour, lowering the opacity is a good way to tone it down, so it doesn’t get in the way of what you’re aiming at. You can slide the scale from opaque to fully transparent, making the crosshair invisible. You might want to consider choosing a colour that will always be noticeable on-screen, but not vibrant enough to be distracting. At full opacity, some colours are more prominent than others. You have a small colour palette to choose from. More options may be added as the game develops, but for now these are your key modifications. You can edit colours, outlines, length, thickness, opacity and more using the crosshair settings. One of these tactical advantages is the ability to customise your crosshairs. As such, gamers are vying for every tactical advantage available. If you don’t know what to write next, have a look at my list of lettering quotes. You can also use your name, the name of your pet or any other words around you. Start drawing your favorite words! Practice hand lettering as ofter as possible. If you succeed with your pencil try it with other pens, too. Think of them line by line, keep in mind the connection and you will realize that special flow these words have. Good words for practising hand lettering are “menu”, “minimum” or “millennium”. These words consist of letters which are easy to draw and connect. There are some typical (lowercase) words, which are perfect for learning hand lettering. If you would connect an “o” to a “v” on the baseline it would look like an “u”. You just have to keep in mind that the letters should stay readable. It’s your task to get creative when drawing letters and connections. The overall appearance has to be harmonic. Hint: It’s not always necessary to connect every letter. There a multiple styles for some letters which may have other start and endpoints (for example for the “r”, “s” or “z”)! If you want to connect these letters to the next letters properly you have to make the line end on the baseline again. Last but not least there are some letters which end below the baseline. That’s the case for “r”, “v”, “w”, “x” and “z”. When drawing them you have to keep in mind that the transition from the last letter has to end on the median, too. On the other hand there are letters which start on the median. These letters have to be connected on the median – otherwise you won’t recognize them anymore. The majority of the letters are connected on the baseline.īut watch out for letters which do not end on the baseline! Letters like “o”, “r,” “v” and “w” end on the median (x-height). When drawing words you always have to think of the next letter (or the first stroke of it) in order to draw the right transition. Sounds easy, but theres one important thing to keep in mind: The transitions between the letters. The next step is to connect all these single letters to words. So you should start with the lower case letters and once that works you can move on to the captials. The lower case letters are easier to learn, because their overall size is smaller. I created a simple worksheet for you, so you can practice the whole alphabet. You can do this with every other letter, too. Let’s have a look at full letters! Every letter consists of one or more strokes. Practice them over and over again! Drawing your first letters These basic strokes will always accompany you from now on. Learning to draw these lines in the right directions will make it easier to learn brush lettering later on for you. Pressure does not really matter – but the direction does. Try to create the following lines using your pencil. If you learned to write in longhand at school you will probably have the right feeling already. They will help you to get a feeling for your tools and you will recognize these strokes later on. It makes very much sense to start with some basic strokes first. When you have everything together we can start! Let’s letter! Basic strokes A sharpener (eventually every pencil becomes blunt).A ruler or a triangle (to create guides or straight lines).A rubber (for erasing unwanted lines, scribbles or guides). But there are some more very useful tools, which will help you to start hand lettering. The minimum things you need are a pencil and some paper. Just start with the pencil you have at home. Don’t worry about that too much at the beginning. Your pencil should not be too hard or too soft. If you make a mistake you simply erase the unwanted line with a rubber. It’s the ultimate tool you will always need (even when you will use other pens later on). About the pensĪs I told you before you can use any normal pen (fixed width) to start hand lettering. With your pen you will be able to draw monoline letters, block letters, elegant flourishes and even imitate brush letterings or real calligraphy. Hand lettering allows you to use any pen. Sooner or later you will start thinking in strokes.ĭon’t mix up hand lettering with brush lettering.īrush lettering definitely is part of hand lettering – but it makes use of special pens (brush pens) to create strokes with different widths. You will draw every single line of a letter. Basically hand lettering means that you stop writing your letters or words as a whole. 4/9/2024 0 Comments Auscultate lung soundsYou need to intervene here with some pulmonary hygiene interventions. There are several tones and types, but overall, they indicate airway obstruction of some degree. Wheezes (also known as “high pitched continuous sounds”) are a fairly common adventitious sound that many people have heard. If this patient has a trach, they will need suction. And sometimes you just need a good cough. ACBT is really useful here, as well as FETs or a PEP if your patient is too weak to perform FETs well. These types of sounds are good indicators that some pulmonary hygiene is needed. Rhonchi are heard when large amounts of mucus are present in the larger airways. Rhonchi (also known as “low pitched continuous sounds”) are what I’ve always termed “the goose honk”. Hopefully, they will be moving toward the end of it. If stridor is just beginning, your patient may need some urgent medical intervention. However, it may also be present in extubated patients who come home after being hospitalized. Stridor is typically associated with upper airway narrowing. Stridor is going to be a very important sound to know when assessing or treating patients with COVID-19. These sounds should tell you that you need to perform some interventions. Crackles can be fine (like bubbles gently popping) or course (like tearing Velcro apart). Crackles can be a sign of COPD, bronchitis, CHF, Pneumonia, or atelectasis depending on when they happen in the breath cycle. Adventitious SoundsĪn advantage for you, not for your patient… Adventitious sounds can be used to determine what pathology is present and what treatment needs to be performed.Ĭrackles (also known as “Discontinuous sounds”) can be heard over the peripheral airways also. It is important to remember that a normal sound that is auscultated in a place not considered to be normal is an adventitious sound. Other normal sounds include bronchial (which are only normal when auscultated over the bronchials) and bronchovesicular (which are only normal when auscultated over the bronchioles). If they are not utilizing much lung volume, this is a great opportunity for you to intervene with some diaphragmatic breath training and/or IMT use for diaphragm strengthening! Vesicular Normal lung sounds (named “vesicular” sounds when auscultated over the peripheral segments) should be somewhat quiet, but sounds that are too quiet are what we term “diminished.” It can be typical to hear diminished sounds in a patient who is obese or who doesn’t utilize much lung volume. If your patient is bradypnic, you may have to wait longer. This is one breath about every 4 seconds. A typical respiratory rate is 12-16 breaths per minute. Ask your patient to take a deeper breath. You can also lift the ear pieces upward, same effect. This helps reposition the ear pieces to channel the sound directly in to your ears. If the head got turned, you won’t hear anything. Check your stethoscope! Some have heads that swivel to channel sound toward different sides (bell vs.Shallow breaths don’t move air in the bases of the lungs so you don’t typically hear sounds there! However, hearing NOTHING is also a problem! If you don’t hear anything, here’s what to do: Keep in mind that WHAT you hear depends on what depth of breath is being taken. Listen at each point for two full breaths. When auscultating, you want to start in the same place every time, typically the patient’s right upper lobe, then traveling across the sternum to the left upper lobe, then inferiorly, and then across. What is most important is that you listen to all segments and compare sides. We aren’t going to spent too much time here. So let’s start with the basic anatomy refresher. If you don’t, you may miss the left lingular segments which is where stuff likes to hide. You also MUST listen to both the front and back of the lungs to ensure you are getting all the segments. This includes listening from top to bottom and left to right with the ability to compare right and left sides of the same lung segment. The method of performing auscultation that gives you the most information is to use the “S” pattern. There are a lot of variables when it comes to disease state, but if you have a stethoscope, just start listening to all your family members to get an idea of what “normal” sounds like. You have to know WHAT you are listening for and you have to know HOW to listen. The importance of this is pretty paramount. If you are going to be providing pulmonary interventions, you should probably have a strong idea of how to auscultate the lungs. 4/9/2024 0 Comments Scp overlord charactersNon-lethal chemicals are deployed at one point, so it's not just for show.
